New Year New Blog

Some people make new year’s resolutions about exercising more, some make them about eating less.

Not me. My new year’s resolution is to improve this blog. To that end I’ve made some big changes.

Here’s to the new 2018 blog

The big change is the name. The blog will now officially be called More Than a Chain. Why? Because you can be more than a chain.

Chains are good, don’t get me wrong, but they don’t build relationships in their communities. They are shiny, but they don’t share their council’s message across all levels of society. They are historic, but we need a tradition for today.

Chains are OK. But you can be more than a chain.

What won’t be changing

For the better part of two years I’ve been uploading something to the blog every Tuesday and Friday. That’s not going to change. So lets take a look at what kind of thing you can expect if you tune in on a Tuesday or Friday morning?

Tuesdays

Tuesday is the business end of the week and that is why it is the day I publish the business end of the blog.

Most Tuesdays you’ll find a new article on the blog. You’ll be able to catch up with your favourite features. Mayor of the Month will feature the cream of the civic crop from across the country. Media Mayor will showcase the best examples of civic leaders in the press.

What’s new for 2018

The big difference is the third Tuesday of the month I’ll be releasing a podcast. These will feature in-depth interviews with experts in the fields of communication, leadership and local government as well as some exceptional civic leaders.

The first one will be hitting this website in just two weeks. If you’re not just in it for the buffet, then you’re going to love the More Than a Chain podcast.

There will also be some fresh new ideas coming up. The focus will be on confidence over the next few months because it has a huge impact on the way we communicate. Keep an eye out for that later this year.

Fridays

Every Friday I will be posting a short video to help you to improve your civic skills. They will cover a range of topics from public speaking to civic networking, from developing a vision to recruiting a team to help you. They’re going to be full of effective, easy to use ideas that can really help you to inspire your community.

I’ll also try to share my answers to the questions that I get asked when I’m out and about. So far, some really interesting videos have come about that way. If you’ve got a question that you need answering drop me a line on info@theciviccoach.com and I’ll do my best to answer it.

What’s new for 2018?

I got some great toys for Christmas so I can now turn my office into a little recording studio. Which means the videos should look great, I’m not so sure how I’m going to look in super sharp HD focus!

An exhilarating 2018

It is an exciting time to be a civic leader. Every day you are out there creating a tradition for today. And I really want to help you do that.

Sure, the new look to the blog is exciting but it is the new depth that will help you transform your role from dignitary to leader. Now that really is some exciting stuff.

Have a great 2018.
